Family Travels
Chesky Krumlov
Chesky Krumlov is a cute little Czech country town.
It reminds you of the medieval age cuteness of
Rothenburg, Germany. For years, the economy was
depressed and the town castle was in ruins...it is now
thriving with buses of tourists during the day.

Chesky Krumlov by night can be  quiet and romantic....or
filled with spirited locals.

Our big draw to this town was a planned full day outing
canoing on the Vulta River.  We so enjoyed our day
canoing in the Dordogne France....we really were looking
forward to a river adventure and day of relaxation.

Unfortunately, we had our only day of rainy weather
Instead of canoeng,  we spent a cozy family day in our B&B
doing laundry and watching the 2008 Olympics.

Tourist sites are pretty slim.  The Castle is ok.
Don't miss the Eggenberg Brewery Tour offered by the TI.
Eating and shopping are fun.
You can walk one side of town to the other in five minutes.

Unfortunately, we missed the Theater tour.....we simply
could not communicate with the admission desk and
repeated trips to the desk to ask questions and try to
purchase tickets resulted in a complete meltdown leaving
us frustrated without tickets and the clerk yelling and
muttering insults.
We are pretty seasoned travelers and this was our first real
problem in our travels.

Overall, Krumlov left us a little disappointed.
If we had  beautiful weather and enjoyed our river
adventure, maybe we would have felt different.
But the Czech people, like the weather, left us cold.

One of the best things about Chesky
Krumlov....was the doughnut rolls a
vendor sold outside in the castle
yard.  The Castle was
unremarkable--if you have seen
one...you've seen them all...  But the
Doughnuts and the bees, we will
always remember

Eggenberg Brewery Walking Tour

Offered by the TI (Tourist Info Office)
located in the corner of the Main Square.

This is an excellent 90 min walking tour12:30
pm English tour --  $150 kc

The tour ends with a stop at a pub for a
beer...good food too!
Warning:  The streets are
genuine ankle busters...
er, Cobblestones

Wear good walking
shoes...
not flip flops
The second day...was a little overcast but fine. Great!
We had a noon time reservation for canoing the Vulta.
We wasted time around the town...shopping, taking
photos, goofing off.

As we went back to buy picnic supplies and get ready
for our big day....the skies opened up and it rained all
day.   A very cold, icky, drizzly, miserable rain.

So we picniced inside our room....and snuggled up in
bed to watch the 2008 Olympic Games
Go Michael Phelps!

The Shuttle Bus Service offered by the Pension is
really a good idea.

Although pricey, it will save huge amounts of
time and frustration at Czech train stations (again,
expect no and receive no extra friendly service.)
Traveling by Train in Czech is scary

The mini bus was clean, AC... the driver popped
in a Czech movie in the DVD player...and took
off...made a bathroom break halfway ....and
dropped off at the Train station.

No chit chat.  No smiles.
No frills...not willing to drop at the Vienna hotel
two blocks away.
Driver wasn't rude....just Czech.

But overall a great service
