Family Travels
Kilkenny & the
Rock of Cashel

As we drove from Dublin to the Dingle
Pennisula...we made two stops.
At Kilkenny for Lunch
and Rock of Cashel for some sightseeing.

Kilkenny was a wonderful place for a picnic.
We found a wonderful little sandwich shop and
decided to picnic in front of the castle.
Kilkenny
The Rock of Cashel was very picturesque
The seat of ancient kings from 300 -- 1100AD
it is the site where St. Patrick baptized the king.

The views are dramatic as the roofs, now long
gone, are open to the sky.
The graveyard has its own beauty with lichen and
moss touched gravestones.
Rock of Cashel
Date Last Visited -- 2006
Celtic Crosses are special to
this area....they served two
fold.  The Pagan symbols of
the circle for the God Ra
(Sun) was incorported into
the Cross symbol of
Christianity to make it more
acceptable to the masses..

Also...the circle carved in the
stone provide strength to
the crosses arm structure
so it passes the test of time
Site of St. Patrick's baptism
of the King
Very pretty little town....we
just stayed for lunch as we
were on a time crunch to
also visit The Rock of
Cashel on our drive across
Ireland to the Dingle
Pennisula
