Family Travels
Salzkammergut
The Lake District
In 2001, We so enjoyed the Salzkammergut Lake
District during the Sound of Music BusTour...that
we took an afternoon and toured the area by car.
Don't miss the Luge Rides!

The kids and Rick returned to stay two nights in
2009 to really explore the area
Our luge fun from 1990
The Lake District
Although the pictures don't
capture it....the lakes are
pristine and clear.

Like swimming in a pool
Bad Durnberg Salzbergwerke
Not only do you get to learn about why salt was
so important and made this region wealthy...you
get to dress in overalls, ride a train, go into a
cave and slide down long wooden slides
just like the miners of old.

What is there not to like!
Wow! My first luge ride...very scary!
I made sure I didn't go too fast.  I
got a nice view on the ride down.

       Not a Speed Demon

I remember going down with Dad one or
two times....then I wanted to go by
myself.  I wasn't strong enough to pull
the brake, so I went zooming down the
hill.  It was fun!

The Salt Mines were a fun experience.
We took a train down the mines and
then slid down the slide to the deeper
part of the mines.  There they told us
about the mines history And how the
caves are closing in on themselves.
               --Brent, age 10

I remember going to the Salt Mines.  The
outfits were too big for me.  And when we
went down the slide...I fell off.

You just have to try this.

The Luge is a lot of fun...the views are
incredible and the tracks are fast and fun!

On road between Salzburg and
Hallstatt...There is one near Fuschlsee and
a larger one at Wolfgangsee
