| Santorini is.....Santorini. There is simply no other place like it in the world. Ok...maybe, we are a little partial....we honeymooned here for two weeks....over 25 years ago. It is such a special place we could not wait to share it with our kids. We returned for an one day port of call while on a Mediterranean Cruise. The best way to experience the island is to stay at least a week. Although there are tourist sites, Santorini is a place to "live" and experience. In a crunch, hire a private driver for the day to make the most of it. Go....and live it yourself! |

| Cruise Ships dock at the base of the cliffs and tenders come into the port. The only two ways up to the Fira are by donkey (no, we are not kidding) or very long lines at the Gondola Station. Take the donkeys...for an experience of a lifetime |

| OUR RECOMMENDATION Donkey Up Gondola Down Donkey is the fastest way up to beat the crowds and start your day. At the end of the day, The lines for the gondola down stretchted around the town...but the cruise ship won't leave until everyone is down. |

| If coming by cruise ship...you can just take the donkey or gondola up and shop around Fira. Why waste such an incredible opportunity? Either book a shore excursion or hire a private driver and go out and see this wonderful island |

Akrotiri Santorini suffered a catastrophic eruption of Nea Kameni sometime between 1647 adn 1627 BC....the heart of Santorini sank into the sea, leaving behind the crescent shaped island and its famous cliffs. The buried city (think Pompeii) is still being excavated today. |
